I love RPGs and also action adventure games so when I first played Fable I loved it. Its a beautifully rendered game with exciting features and unique moral consequences. A few years later and I am still thoroughly enjoying the franchise and eagerly anticipate the new game later this year.
With Fabel III's realise date set for 29th October there is a pre-order treat for us on the lion-head website, pre-order with them and you get to design a villager that will be used in game : ) You decided the area they were born and live in, the way they speak, what they wear and thanks to a little quiz you can also define their "personality".
Along with the villager feature there is also a mobile game called King Maker. Its essentially a capture the flag game were you use a system similar to geo-caching to "log in" at locations to earn in game money, much like the a simular feature in the previous games :)

That's No Space Station, It's a Moon!
As the Millennium Falcon flies towards Alderaan to deliver the stolen plans to Princess Leia's father, Han Solo and crew hit an asteroid field where the planet used to be. After a bit of turbulence and finding a stray TIE fighter, they watch as the small imperial ship floats towards what Luke refers to as "a small moon." Obi-Wan perks up and says, "That's no moon." While Kenobi was able to correctly identify the Death Star when he first saw it, pictures of the Saturn moon Mimas would confuse the hell out of him.
NASA has revealed new photos of the moon, and there is no doubt: it looks identical to the Death Star. Without thinking about it, the small celestial body looks the same as any other - gray with craters - but it is the huge crater with what appears to be a peak in the middle that makes us reminisce about one of the greatest sci-fi epics of all time and pray that a green beam doesn't shoot out and destroy Earth. Upping the geek factor, when a thermal scan of the moon was taken, hot spots were discovered that made the moon look like a giant game of Pac Man, the superlaser focus lens suddenly becoming a dot on which the yellow creature can nosh.
These pictures were released by NASA yesterday taken by the Cassini spacecraft which is a joint international venture and is in orbit around Saturn. So what does this tell us? Two things, really. The first is that surface texture variation may be responsible for the different temperature zones, though the pattern is inexplicable. The second is that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is full of nerds B )

Rapture
If you haven't already been enthralled by Rapture and its delights, where have you been? (If you are interested you can take a look at this thorough synopsis) But if you have be lucky enough to play it and you are as keen on games as I am you will be eagerly anticipating the new game. On the 23rd April '09 windows games released a teaser trailer for the up coming Bioshock2 which may have been previously confused with the title "Sea of Dreams". The Big daddy doll is really creepy! There are also some awesome screen shots of the new game on this German website.
If you have a copy of Bioshock on the Xbox and have completed the game please go take a look at the extras because it looks brilliant on the big screen and the sound is eerily inciting. I'm sure there is going to be less art deco drama and more scary creepy stuff and from what I can gather there is a mysterious submarine pinching little girls from the coast, leaving strange foot prints behind in the sand...sounds great! There are lots of info on the big sister, as well as getting to play the first ever big daddy, how cool would that be! I'm not sure there will be as much rapture (sorry) as was with the first game after such a hype but I certainly look forward to what the artist directors can recreate some of that Rapture magic.

Bioshock synopsis and review : )
I'm sure if any of you know me you will know I am fond of computer games. 2 years ago I played a game that knocked my socks of. Bioshock. It is essentially a first person shooter / RPG, but is a whole lot more! You get so sucked in by the atmospherics, the music, the story, the style, it is a creepy mysterious beautifully made game. It manages to be sci fi and scientific whilst staying retro.
In 1960 a man who crashes from a plane and into the North Atlantic Ocean, finds a light house with a submersible inside. What does he do? He goes down of course. The city of Rapture is an underwater haven built in the 1940s for those who do not wish to be tied down by laws, morals or beliefs . . . but it all went to pot and 25 years later un checked genetic experiments, gangster law and riots (mostly against Ryans death penalty which led to pheromone control) have turned rapture to a shell of what it once was. The player arrives to the abandoned city with junkie splicers working as gangsters in the deserted What ensues is a dramatic first person shooter, with super powers you can pick and choose - from the consumers point of view. It has weapons upgrades, parallel story lines, security cameras, gun turrets, genetic modification and creepy little girls with their giant body guards make the game play fantastic, and the whole package is pure brilliance.
The maps are well thought out, inventive and exciting and the characters interesting and engaging. Its not liner like a lot of similar games and I love that you can explore every nook and cranny, leave no stone unturned. The story line is told through a series audio logs, diary tapes from several people played as you play and found throughout the game. Genetically-induced ghostly playbacks of past events, and radio messages with remaining characters. You cant die so that makes the fighting pretty easy but with a wardrobe of conventional weapons (yes I said wardrobe) and a closet full of super powers you can get really creative, like setting boobie traps : D
It won no less than 8 game of the year awards and many more art visual and sound realated awards besides. I suggest you go and at least try the free download demo (if it is still available) or pick up a second hand copy of the game if you see it, it will be well worth your while!

Zelda live action movie and Bard class in Wow
In case you haven’t heard what an awesome April fool it was this year in the gaming world I thought I would enlighten you : ) First up is ING’s Zelda live action movie trailer; I love it! It’s a rather extravagant spoof made by rainfall productions, the trailer took 3 months to film, had a massive casting program and most of the special effects done at home on a Mac ^_^
Then there is blizzard…. They are a bunch of big kids with a lot of time (and money for that matter) on their hands. For instance, did you know that Lich King would be adding an awesome bard class to World of Warcraft or that WoW was coming to consoles with Molten Core (there’s even a trailer!)? And you must have heard about Tauren marines in StarCraft II, right? You haven’t even seen Diablo II: Loot Pinata??
If you are a gamer, I highly recommend you go check them all out : D

Games ratings BBFC
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has ordered a review of the games ratings system. This review is currently being carried out by renowned psychologist Tanya Byron, who has proved level headed in this field in the past.
The problem is that the games industry needs to work much harder in educating parents and leading the government and other governing bodies to take the same line. They need to be aware of their responsibilities on censoring the games that their children play. It's unfair to blame the software industry for making these adult themed games. The average age for a gamer is now well over the drinking age limit and targeting adult games at the average person who buys them is just good business sense.
I last year over Christmas I took a temp job in a game shop, and the rules were quite strict, no child can purchase a game with out proof of id for any games with certification. Problem was if there is a parent or adult with them they can buy it for them. Unlike alcohol or cigarettes there is no "intent to supply" clause available for staff and parents are happy to buy these games for their kids. The game industry needs to make the following message abundantly clear to everyone: Adult games should not be played by kids.
It's simple really. If it has an 18 certificate on it then it is not meant to be played by your 13-year-old child, no matter how much they hassle you, no matter how many of their friends have it. Of course kids are going to want to play these games but age certification is there for a reason.
Some say that video games have a bigger psychological effect than movies because of the interaction involved, but shouldn't we focus on making sure that kids don't watch those movies or play those games in the first place?
Lets hope the awareness raised by this review on gaming certification will provoke some thought in those responsible for children. When recommended certification by the BBFC has been around for years, do you think they really take any more notice?
