Grave yard preperations

I have started to make some Halloween decorations for the party we are having on Oct 31st. I always love party planning and being the hostess with the mostess ; ) I have made the invites to be posted, stating a formal dinner hosted by Lord and Lady Carrington, but when the guests arrive they will be greeted by Igor and Frankenstein's bride in a haunted house! I have made shopping lists and started the menu.
Cobwebs and twisted silver and black crepe paper will be the main decoration but I'm also going to paint some fallen twigs and attach some fake crows for a spooky centrepiece. I've left a bouquet of flowers from my birthday dry naturally and they look brown and limp, perfect for Halloween ; ) In the hallway I'm going to make a chandelier from cardboard and hang a curtain for a nice dramatic entrance : )
I have ordered some supplies, a fancy table cloth with spider webs, straws and silver/black serviettes. And last weekend Dave and I started to make some cardboard gravestones for the front garden. He was keen to help and is going away next week, besides it never hurts to start early : ) We started with some slim boxes (Thank you Rock Band) and moulded them even further by cutting, bending and tying the cardboard together.
I hope David can find some treats while he is away in Canada, in particular I'm after a severed arm to have coming up out of the grass in front of the "I'm not dead" gravestone LOL I'm also going to rig some fishing wire to a skeleton resting in a home made coffin (cardboard again) filled with straw, when I open the front door he should get pulled up giving those trick n' treaters a bit of a surprise ; )Monday, 7 September 2009
Words of wisdom
I am often finding interesting and clever quotes from famous philosophers & thinkers of our time and often jot them down in my journal. I thought I would share some of my favourite quotes from Albert Einstein who was a smart man in so many ways.
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."
"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."
"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."
"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
Just something I thought I would share with anyone who cares to read it :)

MSN virus and BCC
In the midst of the worm virus which 4 of my friends have now suffered with in the last month I have decided to blog about it. This worm is not damaging but more annoying. It logs into your msn account on messenger for a few seconds and sends links to people in your lists. It often says something like “this is funny” or “photo of you” followed by a link. In one case I experienced it then download a worm (I didn’t luckily) to your pc causing damage but this most recent one simply asks you to log into msn and stealing your log in details.
A simple way to slow down virus and nuisance scams is to use blind carbon copy when you send out forwarding bulk emails. Bcc send emails without letting a 3rd party know all of the address, avoiding the risk of viruses and scammers getting hold of these addresses. It also makes the emails easier to read for recipients, without having to scroll past the hundreds of addresses before reaching the message.
I myself was ignorant to this feature intill recently and have since taken it on bored when ever I send emails. I know how easy it is for viruses to spread and if I had one on my pc they would steal the addresses as they were sent electronically, just some thing to think about!

Married to the army
What should be said when you get permission from the CO to get married lol It is American so lots about being a single mother etc (they have 12 months tours and go once ever 3 years...) If you have time to read through it, it is quite funny ; ) If the Army wanted you to have a wife, it would have issued you one!
“Dear family and friends, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and the Department of the Army to witness this exchange of vows and love that these dedicated, loving people have for one another.
“Do you _____ take _____(who was once referred to as the ‘dependent’), as your lawfully wedding wife, to dwell together in so far as the Department of the Army will permit?”
“Wilt thou love her, comfort her via the Postal Service or email or over the telephone, make sure she knows where the post office, PX, clinic and the church are and what time she is scheduled to use the laundry room the day she arrives, wherever you are stationed?”
“Wilt thou attempt to tell her more than 24 hours in advance that you will be leaving for extended periods?!”
“Wilt thou remember this special day in the future and somehow try to telephone her on the anniversaries you are separated.”
Do you _____take ____ this soldier as thy wedded husband, knowing that he is depending upon you to be the perfect Army Wife, running the household as you see fit and being nice to the Commander’s Wife (even when it is hard to)?
Further, you understand that your life with your husband (little that you may have together) will not be normal, that you may have to explain to your children, that mothers do have husbands, that children do have daddies, and that the picture of the man on the refrigerator is not the milkman, but the same individual who tucks them in at 2200 hours, long after they are asleep. This soldier is their daddy, who loves then very, very much”
“Wilt thou wear the cuckold horns and act as mistress to his first commitment The Army and understand your time comes second to that of the armed forces?”
"Wilt thou love, respect and wait for him, preparing his favourite meals when he does come home and freezing them when he doesn’t? When he is gone wilt thou send him his favourite cookies and pictures of yourself and the children so he can remember what you look like? When you are separated on your anniversaries (which will happen more often than not) you will remember this special day and celebrate it on the closest day possible to the actual date. And last but not least, put on the outside of the door his ‘WELCOME HOME’ sign when he is due to arrive.”
“I,________, take thee, _______as my independent wife from 1900 to 0600 hours or as long as allowed by my Commanding Officer (subject to change without notice) for better or worse, earlier or later, near or far, and promise to look at the pictures you send me, maybe not when they get to me in the field, but before I turn out the lights. I will send letters if time permits, and if not, to some how, some way make the time.
“I,________, take thee, _______as my proud husband for every moment of the day. I understand I will be a mistress and at times a single mother, for better for worse, earlier or later, near or far, and promise to cook for you and keep your home comforting and acceptable for when ever you shall need it and to take any material stains from your person. I will write often and send trinkets when we are separated and when you are here tell you often how much you mean to me.
“I now pronounce you – married to The Army!”

New Years Resolutions
The tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar. With two faces, Janus could look back to the past and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.
As with the Romans in our modern society New Year's Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It's a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. There are lots of common ones, to lose weight and get fit, spend more time with family and fiends, to quit smoking or drink less. Some people aim to organise finances and get out of debt others want to help others and get more out of life.
I plan to join a club and take up one or two new hobbies. Out here in the middle of nowhere there is not much to do, and I need to make some new friends as the old ones are so far away. (boy do I miss them all) Something I have recently tried and loved was shooting, Dave enjoys it too so we hope to join a gun club and get licensed together.
My official new year resolution is to make more of an effort with myself. Those who know me will know that I love fashion and clothes and often over dress for special events or nights out. In contrast most of the rest of the time I lounge about in the same old jeans with colour vest tops and plain V-neck jumpers, my hair is usually in a low ponytail and I wear minimum, if any, make up. I feel I'm lacking in variety and want to bring some of that beauty and glamour I love so much into my daily life.
Do you have any New Years Resolutions, if so what are they?
